With the specific type of chemo regimen I’ll be on, I will lose my hair. The hair I’ve been growing out for the past 5 years. The hair I finally figured out how to put in to a decent looking ponytail. The hair I’ve recently learned how to curl with the flat iron in about 10 minutes. The hair that’s the longest it’s been since I was about 5 years old, even though my daughter says is still “too short”. Ha!

Oh, well. It’s just hair! I’m not worried about it. It will grow back…in what type of texture or color, we’ll find out next year! I work with a lady that did this not-so-well known process available, called Cold Cap therapy. It’s a pretty unique and crazy process of wearing these frozen swim-style caps on chemo days. It more or less freezes the hair folicles, to prevent the chemo drugs from killing them off. Family members also suggested this to me. I seriously considered it. After doing research, reading blogs about it and discussing in detail with Clint, I decided to just let my hair go for now. The process includes putting on the caps about an hour before infusions start, and wearing them for several hours after infusion is over…changing them out every 20 minutes during that 8 to 10 hour period. Additionally, you have to wait several days to wash your hair after, and be very careful with your hair in general during the entire process. For some people, keeping their hair is very important to them…so Cold Caps is a true treasure for them! For me, it’s just not that important to me, so I just decided to let it go. Let it go-o-o-o-o-o. <singing in my Elsa voice, of course>

So, I decided to go ahead and cut it short now, so I can donate it before it falls out. Sara was not so thrilled about getting it cut, as she does not like short hair…or change…or not being in charge (not sure where she got that from?!?!?). But she’s adjusting, and no longer stares at me like I’m some weirdo with her mom’s voice. LOL

I’m still getting used to seeing myself in the mirror. It’s been about 12+ years since I’ve had hair this short. One good thing is that it takes me less than 3 minutes to dry and “style” my hair in the morning now. #Winning!! I’m saving 30+ minutes each day. Clint was all “Just think of how much $$ we’ll save on shampoo now!” I had to remind him that I use Suave shampoo, at $1.29 a bottle. Ha!
